It’s vaudeville. But look at the task they have.
Your baby may need it’s vitamins local gunman at large in your neighborhood weather is coming again all packed up 3x a day in 1/2 hr chunks by the same small batch of people.
How they don’t go insane amazes me.
But NOBODY beat’s pink lady. Nobody. Top of the game.
AND – if you watch broadcast news from other nations, THEY ALL do it almost EXACTLY the same way. Any language. Any culture. It’s a format. Weird format, but it’s a format.
With print news, bias is usually easier to spot, although like local news, standard Center-Right bias dominates as it always did.http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/
It’s as much a format as websites and videos with the words “Truth” “Liberty” “Free” “Real” in the names.Or documentaries. Haven’t touched documentaries in years. They always lead you somewhere and I prefer a bit of clarity in my head.
News anchors are acting most of the time, including the kabbitzing parts. That doesn’t mean they’re GOOD actors though.
I’m actually not much for TV. I used to be amused at informercials and would occasionally do a writeup, breaking down “what the infomercial is trying to convey vs what its really saying” and it was fun, but once I had the pattern nailed down, it got boring.
Nowadays with Youtube there’s THOUSANDS of people who notice the same stuff I did and do compilations and break it all down for their 8 year old viewers to become more informed consumers so I’m ok with that.
I tend to minimize my contact with websites and videos with the words “Truth” “Liberty” “Free” “Real” in the names as they tend to deal in intrigue, gossip and speculation without accountability.
That’s not saying that standard sources are perfect, but once you know bias and sift past it, there’s plain old boring facts to be absorbed.
You call it a hijack, I call it broadening I can only be myself and it’s how I roll, for worse or better to those around.A sorry excuse? Maybe. But I like meself.
I know. It dulls the mind. I kick myself sometimes for paying attention to news in general again.
I swore off ALL news for about 12 years or so. Wouldn’t touch it except for weather occasionally.
But about four years ago, allowed myself to start eating it a bit, now and again. Takes you for rides, it does, from any ‘source’.
2002-2014 was blissfully news free. I bragged,, “if it’s important, somebody would tell me”. Gotta go back to that.
