Yeah, as much as I hate to say it (and I’ve said “there should be term limits in Congress in the past” before I thought it through), I agree.
Term limits in Congress would weaken Congressional power and INCREASE the power of the Executive branch.
It’s precisely this weird, incestuous, wonky bunch called Congress that keeps the Executive office in check. And… they will. They know they hold an ounce more power and yet the President can do things they can’t. Checks and balances: it’s weird but it works.
Sometimes I think it’s ridiculous the amount of times that Congress gets in the way of the President – and some of their reasons are downright ridiculous. And yet…. it does serve a powerful purpose.
I remember some dinosaurs that hung in there a long long time – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strom_Thurmond seemed like he’d NEVER retire and probably kept South Carolina back in decades of progress.
And yet… THAT’S what they wanted. So… states powers.
I may not *like* how a particular state behaves but. if they’re not breaking any federal laws (designed to keep THEM in check), and they wanna be what I’d consider weird, well… go for it. There’s 49 other states. As much as I’d want everybody to think like me, they don’t. So long as basic human rights aren’t violated.
i never felt represented by either my house rep or congress person (or governor or President). But as long as they’re not doing anything disasterous…
