It’s not the accent or the word choices but the action choices that they’re judged on.

I voted for George W Bush the 2nd time because I admired his cabinet. I thought, “Cabinet’s solid, even if I don’t agree with all of their decisions”. Then he went and fired his cabinet and installed new people whose decisions I really disagreed with.
So, no, I didn’t judge him on his Texas accent – which I thought was quaint — or his simple way of talking – I think it’s important to be understandable — but on actions.

It’s why I don’t get all that invested in politics – or I try not to. It’s just a series of disappointments whichever way it goes.
