It’s not that people lack imagination. “How will this make the USA prosper or stronger militarily?” seems to be all the government cares about.

Military always gets special funding by taxpayers. Citizens also gets things subsidized by the government as well, like cheap bus fairs, plane fairs, train fairs.

And I agree the ‘net could be a part of that.

They become a necessity in some environments to some degree. 11 yr old nephew the other day had to fill out something for school. It required Internet email and Microsoft word, newer version.Thankfully, I was able to get him a free alternative to word he could use but I’m technical.

Now, he has a computer. A number of kids in his class don’t.

I wouldn’t say the other kids lacking computers and Internet are being denied rights. Rather, I’d say that the school has higher expectations of the families than suit the community.

  I think they believe that if they expect more out of people, they will rise to the occasion. But money isn’t magic.
