It’s important because: IF it was mutually agreed that these supposedly sovereign were contractually forbidden from joining NATO, then yes, illegal actions were taken and Russia might have some valid excuse for what they are doing. But I have yet to see it. And I’d like to because I’m tired of having to take this side of things. The other narrative (bad NATO expanding) is easier and more fun. Mine is boring.

I’ve had this conversation with about 7 times in 7 different conversation and I really want to see where it was agreed that Ukraine and the other countries there were forbidden from joining NATO.
If they were not, then Russia has no game here.
