“It’s good for you that we tear apart your work, piece by piece. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger you know and we’re improving the art world by being assholes”.

hence the danger of complimenting artists. Supposedly, the only good artist is a suffering artist. A confident and happy artist is a scammer. How true is this? I dunno. Seems to be an elaborate justification for critics to be mean and cruel to artists. “It’s good for you that we tear apart your work, piece by piece. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger you know and we’re improving the art world by being assholes”.

Oh well. I dunno much about much.

wait.. I think I just described the state of Education as well. Replace artist with student and critic with teacher. Yeah. I think I just unlocked Common Core and their new “theory” of “Grit”. *sigh*.

Also applies to standard military breakdown/rebuild techniques. Maybe they’re right. I hope they’re wrong. Still, are critics making an Artist Army?
