Agreed. I have a lot of other ideas since giving my first serious set. I didn’t give my favorites of anything really, just “What’s the most generic that could apply to a civilization as a whole and make them overall an ok place to be?”
Still, I’d be curious with experiments in my favorites. The collective television series of Doctor Who throughout its whole run? I don’t know if I would _want_ a planet of people who liked what I like
I love the show but I’ve never gone full blown Whovian, as much as I wanted to. I’ve known many. I.. don’t know if it would work well.
I tried to pick things that embody other things within it, as I don’t believe in the categorization of knowledge/understanding/information.
The Spanish art embodies the 20th century philosophers and literatures… although in retrospect, I think I meant Hispanic Art, emcompassing all of the lands conquered and occupied by Spain, which would then include countries who art was influenced by Borges for example and his garden of forking paths. If Borges had written more, I’d have included him… Bradbury for the broadness and scope and the embodied engineering and scientific principles in his work which are sound footings to get a science started with. [there’s no science in this list.. so they have to get their scientific background from SOMEPLACE].
Bradbury knew his stuff. Well, the social side of science anyway. But since building a society is what’s necessary, it’s good to know.
I’m not a logical positivist but I’ve been influenced by those who were influenced by the movement and have seen the technological revolutions which have taken place by the fandom of the shows that were inspired by logical positivism…. and science fiction in general… so I know it’s practical, even if it’s not ‘my’ philosophy 100% per se.
It’s all “whistle while you work” stuff on my list anyway. Maybe some Heidegger for good measure but then people would be making up new words all of the time instead of getting stuff done.
