It was such a weird discovery for me. Looking into “minimum information”, I became fascinated by a minimalist drawing of a cat from the 1950s that was all straight lines. I decided to start tracing images in the same style – all straight lines (they don’t have to be perfect). And lo and behold, a recognizable result. Even the mood can be captured from a face that way. I never understood how it was possible for little sketches to convey emotions. It never dawned on me that when you trace over the images, that’s exactly what they look like. That is, cartoons are actually realistically conveying the mechanisms used to convey facial emotions.
