I see it as the “nice guy” thing. We’re nice guys. It take a LOT of work to be nice. People sometimes don’t see it. I’m a little envious at times of people who just “let it all hang out” and say whatever they’re thinking. They’re not worried about consequences or looking ridiculous or caring about other people’s feelings.
When I encounter people like that, I’m reminded of the places where *I’m* like that and I try to work on it. I like being the “nice guy”. But it’s a lot of work. We’re stretched to the breaking point already, just to keep a bit of civility moving forward. It’s worth the struggle. Very worth it. But it’s not easy.
