It sounds callous but I have to protect my feels for things I can do something about.

I don’t watch ‘em. I stay away from news about them. I’m not fighting them. I’m sitting in my chair here. People that are fighting them are paid to fight them. That’s their job.

They do have a beautiful anthem though. I have an MP3 of it somewhere. Very catchy and even though I don’t know the words, it’s got a very strong ear-worm quality to it and from a musical point of view, I give kudos to whoever wrote it.

Yeah, being empathic (empathetic? I don’t use the words right) – I found I have to really protect myself against emotional invasion.

One example that you might’ve heard me mention before is a commercial for animal abuse with Sarah McLaughland singing “Arms of an Angel” and speaking for them.

I’ve since watched it but when it first came on, I turned it off within a few seconds of seeing the sad brown dog and the sad brown cat. I felt the emotional manipulation taking place within me.

I said, “NO!” because I don’t like when people use our mirror neurons/empathy sense for money or control, EVEN IF, it’s a good cause.

I also stay away from documentaries for the same reason. I have to keep my head clear. There’s plenty of dry facts I can turn to that don’t engage me emotionally when I want to learn something. I don’t like my buttons pressed. They get pressed too easily, so I have defenses.
