Those who work with ecological processes have that difficult task of scaling as well.
Erosion could be millions of years or milliseconds depending on what they’re looking at.
Maybe seeing a similar problem from a different field may help.
 I gave myself a headache over this a few months ago so it’s still fresh in my memory. I ended up not going anything with it but at least I learned what my issue was and paths to solve it which for me was scaling representation.
