It is a logical question to my question. My follow up question may or may not be so: What criteria can we use to determine whether or not an game rule we are presently using as one of the Rules of the Universe is not masking a deeper set of rules of the universe that are not yet accessible to us?

Make sense. I was thinking more in terms of our own assumptions masking the universe’s rules, providing ourselves with short-circuited simplifications of deeper rules that seem to function _most_ of the time but sometimes, do not, giving temporary access to deeper, typically masked rules.
The distinction between logical and ontological layers, however, is what I needed to clarify my thinking. Thank you.
