Is particle physics hitting a desert wasteland? I don’t think it is. I think there’s larger viable structures. But given the timeline gaps between discovery since the 1970s, are costs justified? I think so. Greatest minds pooled in one place, the related projects they work on and other nearby discoveries that aren’t fundamental particles but things only achievable with an accelerator just the same make it worthwhile.
