internet was developed 1/2 from a 1950s military communication strategy that inspired the “intergalactic network” memo in 1963 and 1/2 academic curiousities, with a sideline of the independent hippie Cali hackers that started the Usenet side of things and the Pc hackers starting the BBS hackings.

We already have a better model than communism / capitalism / socialism / fascism / etc. We’re on it. Ok, it’s not designed for privacy and ok it’s not designed for money making but perhaps the “thing in itself” is enough reason for its sustainability. Get that model out into a geopolitical governance and maybe we’ll get something new happening.
“follow the money” gets complicated because a lot of forces cobbled together this network of networks but most of the key players sat quietly in the background coming up with regulations and standards that we aren’t even aware of.
