Instead of crying, why not beat up your dog? Kick a cat? Start a road rage incident over a minor traffic infraction…
You’ve never worked with kids apparently. That’s when they learn it.
I hold my emotions back but I don’t even know what they are 1/2 the time. I feel physical symptoms and have to reason through it to find a word. “Oh, ok, I guess I’m sad right now? Ok, I’m sad right now”. It’s stunted. but I learned young not to redirect it anger as that broke stuff that I then had to fix.
anger that’s rightful anger is rightful. But misplaced anger is a problem, particularly when it forms in groups and is encouraged by laws, rules of acceptable behavior, financial incentives, etc
It’s obvious to me. Robert’s got it. Carlin’s got it. Maybe you see something else but I don’t know what it is.
There’s a distinction between emotional regulation and suppression.
Toxic masculinity is suppression of emotion, with mocking and anger two of the few socially acceptable and sanctioned male behavioral outlets.
It’s uncontrolled anger. Anger is in the description right there.
But you can subdivide anger into two parts:
Uncontrolled and controlled.
Controlled anger isn’t always better either. Say a group gets together and they’re all angry at an individual. So they hatch a plan and channel their uncontrolled anger into a controlled burst of anger that results in a bad ending.
Anger can be a useful emotion but for many it’s like having a TV with only a couple of channels on it.
Letting them consume you until the emotion directs your actions.
You’re wanting mind reading out of me here where I say the right words you want to hear. But I don’t know what that is.
Not all angry men “go toxic”.
