Installing Chapel, a parallel programming language from Cray (the supercomputer people) . I’m running Windows 7 (still) and not any of the “supported systems” so I thought it was out of reach.
Then I remembered I had cygwin. So I started following the make instructions and it chocked on my bad Python 3.7 installation. That Python 3.7 has been a thorn in my side for months now. Never could get it working OR removed fully.,
But I wasn’t going to get in the way of having Cray on my old laptop.
Such a victory to get every last shred of Python 3.7 off my computer so that the other versions could work again — and when I ran the installation script in cygwin for chapel… it started magically compiling.
It’s still compiling. I have not had ANYTHING successfully compile from a script in a long time so this is exciting to watch.
OH IT’S DONE. Now to see if it works.
