Thank you for pointing that out. I think a lot of the awe and mystery is mostly promotional material anyhow. Inspire people = funding and like all scientific endeavors, funding is a practical matter and marketing is a part of it.
it’s not a bad thing but a lot of work goes into promoting “the purity of science”, which is fine. They do what they have to do. I don’t fault it much.
Still, I have to be careful where I say it. It’s anathema opinion in many circles, and leads to an inevitable, “Then you hate science! ” or “Then you’re a religious nut” – or a whole serious of ridiculous memes. Such as it is. A few years in the business world, or better still, do a little bit of grant writings and all the idealism goes *poof*. tongue emoticon
