indeed, it’s one of those ongoing questions:
is it better to focus on your strengths and make them stronger
or strengthen your weaknesses in order to be more well rounded?
there’s a case for both
for example one of the ways to improve a weakness is to use somebody else as a proxy
we get better at convincing people to do things for us that we are not good at ourselves
other ways to compensate may be to get minimal functioning in areas where there is none but not shoot for equal – just a little “better than before”
i’m blind in one eye and deaf in one ear from birth
of course they aren’t on the same side so I don’t get the benefit of fully leaning on the left or right
I have to be left AND right brained but in different ways all the time
probably why I’m drawn to constant musical creation: precision of the left with the emotion on the right etc
my left hand will never be as fully developed in everything as my right
but I can echo melodies on the left and in fact I prefer bass melodies which resemble cello or violet type parts: they are slower and lower but they can carry while the right hand which is Speed capable can be like butterflies dancing around the melody
A good fusion of different abilities
