In the USA, children are taught to the Bell Curve. That is, the average.

Excelling is subtly looked down upon as it falls off the Bell Curve just as being slower does. Children are set aside and ostracized by their peers, parents and teachers alike as a “nerd” and it’s socially discouraged.

That’s why you don’t see it. We have a culture of “teach for the average” rather than “promote the shining stars”.
