I’m sorry you got fired. But “not yelling at the patients” falls under local differences.

Did the head nurse routinely steal from the purses of the patients? No.

Did they give the wrong medicine and laugh about it? No.

Do they change the bedding eventually so as to not get TOO many nasty bed sores? Eventually.

It’s within ranges of care.

And yes: this is why systems of compassion are necessary: some individuals may tend to be selfish but if a system supports compassion, they will do more-or-less compassionate acts because they HAVE TO, even if they don’t WANT to.

You CAN’T wait around expecting all individuals to be compassionate.
People don’t work that way.
