I’m ok with this. For the tech companies, each advance in one part of the world, fuels development in other parts of the world.

I still have somewhat of a globalist perspective but I did ever since I was a kid. I read a line in there:

“Apparently the plan is to allow Japan’s corporations to book time on the supercomputer for a fee, thus freeing them from the need to use the services of US companies like Google and Microsoft.”

I’m ok with this. For the tech companies, each advance in one part of the world, fuels development in other parts of the world.

If they are successful in their venture, US companies will have to follow suit and improve themselves and make their products cheaper.

But you make a good point about the Republican tendency to cut funding to research. Cutting off University research and grants to companies for research projects can lead to stagnation in development, implicitly giving *any* other country a head start in that area, but especially those who are already equal or far greater than us technologically, like Japan.
