I’m not talking about the notions behind the quotes. I’m talking about one historical quote that happened in history that you are now aware of. The quote with the next line: “To determine the true rulers of any society, all you must do is ask yourself this question: Who is it that I am not permitted to criticize? We all know who it is that we are not permitted to criticize.” “We all know”. What does the audience know?

I’m focused on a single quote by a single man who is attributed falsely to Voltaire and it seems to upset people to find out who it came from and they want to keep using the quote as if it came down from heaven itself.

 I’m a stickler sometimes.
A few years ago, probably 2012-13, I was getting pissed off by fake Tesla quotes. So I found all of his writings that I could, converetd them to text ,put them in a single big text file, and would search it whenever I’d heard a sus quote from him.
It was either in it or it wasn’t. Made things easier.
This one isn’t as bad as I don’t know or care much about Voltaire. But as it’s super duper extremely very very insanely popular online among THREE CERTAIN circles I can think of, that don’t always interact, and I have friends in each of them, I’ve enjoyed pointing the origin’s fact out.
It has created many interesting conversations in different places.
actually it’s not really layers of irony at this point, mostly mental health breakdown extremes with multiple meme references layered on one another. Part of their cultural narrative of that Minecraft generation.

Tyler Davis Once upon a time (late 20s) I was going to go into a monastery during a religious phase. Made friends with a local monk who I thought could be my spiritual father in the meantime.
iFunny is trash. But I get a rush from ”

Congratulations

! Your Meme Has Been Featured!” about once – sometimes twice a week. And watching thousands and thousands of likes and comments come pouring it.

I know what stuff they like to see so it’s not hard to spot anymore.
I try to fill up my space with mostly trash on there anyway just to balance it out. Still, 101 featured. I’m proud of my shit heap there even if it’s mostly a bunch of bored army brats and midwestern american and village russian gamers on there
