I’m lucky. I didn’t hear of the phrase “mixed race” or “biracial” until I was in my 20s. Even today it seems weird to take the extra time to point that out. I mean if someone wants to call themselves that, fine. But going through the trouble of figuring out someone’s ethnicity or whatever always seemed the realm of gossip, “doesn’t she look a little [ethnic name]?” category.
