I’m glad solid state drives are taking over. But: CDs will last 1000 years. (they don’t). Our backup system is foolproof (company closes).
Lots of big promises.
Standards change frequently. Serial and Parallel ports were standards for 25+ years. Now it’s USB. But which one?
What will replace USB by 2025?
Don’t know yet.
Cloud’s great. Companies change hands and dissolve. Servers get wiped.
I take this seriously. I dumped a bunch of stuff to https://archive.org/details/kennethudut as it’s their explicit mission. Long way to go. I also have backups in other places as well as my own.
Information is not created or destroyed is an assertion and a marvelous fiction.
I believed it since I was a kid. But 47 yrs old now. Lost a lot of stuff through the years. Just – gone. No return.
I could place my hope in some future humanity but that’s theirs. I can only work from within this lifespan.
My current goal is finding out what is a functional system for myself to think and act for maximal benefit to humanity and to my own sense of “what’s right”.
What is that? I dunno. I go long ways just to circle back again and rediscover similar themes. I gain more abilities and use them.
I remember “before”. Got on at 17 yrs old. 30 years now. Before was a wasteland. I’m an unabashed internet advocate.
Consolidation is hard for me. Still can’t accept averages and means and bell curves.
ou’re further along the path than I am. I’m still finding my own themes. It’s getting there.
I’m working on myself. It’s a pain in the ass, looking for my own themes. Probably obvious to others, I dunno. I’m blind to myself but working on real time mental mirrors.
I envy those that accept “how things are”. But maybe I’m “projecting”, I still believe in the uniqueness of individuals and that it matters, especially for those who are lost in the machinery of things.
Starting from birth? I don’t think it’s possible. They tested 42 MINUTE old babies and they form “theory” and enact it through imitation.
