I’m 45 and my politics haven’t changed since I was 11. That “you get more conservative as you get older” thing is kind of a lie. What really happens is the conservative they had was hiding under their need for absolutism and they just changed what they’re absolute about.
Open minded stays open minded. Closed minded stays closed minded.
edit: ok, that’s not necessarily true. People CAN soften and harden.

Don’t forget those boomers usually came from money and just stayed in money. They didn’t actually change themselves much ultimately I don’t think.

Sympathetic to the less powerful stuck in oppressive environments. I could always ‘see” / feel power differences, whether in small groups of people or large. Kind of a sense. I’m better at articulating it now.

I’m 45, 2nd wave GenX and I’ve been disavowing “my generation” since I was a kid.
[2nd wave is 8-bit culture / early internet / hacker types]

The economy’s always sucked so I don’t know how anybody could’ve ruined it.*
.
*EDIT but yes it’s getting worse but its the fault of the powerful who are all victim shaming.
===
But if I HAVE to “represent” GenX, I’m sorry they’re shits. They didn’t ‘get’ the nihlistic-yet-oddly-hopeful message they were supposed to get from our environment.
===
Edgy is 2015 tho’.

Yup. I was an early for that. I went to Hampshire College in 90/91 and couldn’t finish due to high costs / scholarship / grant not enough.
I also had open bathrooms, safe spaces,I knew otherkin and early internet. It was fun but too much $$$.
Now all the colleges joined in the “too expensive” game and it

Barriers too high. Everything’s slanted to favor those already in favored status positions. Two class society getting wider and wider.

Society’s been shifting away from university towards “dirty jobs” / trade schools for a while now. All the positions university degrees would get you are filled and PhD’s can only write so many books. They aren’t getting jobs while trade people always get work somewhere.
===
Besides, anything you want to know in university you can get online in your own time.
===
Mike Rowe has been a proponent of this for a long time – and I liked him til he started turning into a right wing jackass.
But I still support his trades-are-good theme.

When I was 17, I vowed I’d never forget what it felt like to have to deal with the blame and pressures that came bearing down from the adult world.
Wrote myself a letter to my future self to be opened on my 42nd birthday (Hitchhiker’s Guide stuff). I wrote about what kind of man I wanted to become in great detail. What mattered in life. What didn’t matter.
So, on my 42nd birthday.I looked for that letter from 17 yr old me to 42 yr old me, opened it and read it
It worked. I became the man 17 yr old me wanted me to become.
===
I’m just sorry this hill ever had to exist. This wasn’t the future world I wanted to see. Everybody online? Yes! Fewer and fewer opportunities for people? No.
===
Future of tan/olive skin? That’s fine. If someone wants to keep their weird family traits and produce lots of kids? Go for it. Just don’t bother the rest of us about it.
===
Is “straight edge” still a valid grouping type? I’m amazed and impressed and yeah, usually something’s hiding there, often pretty big-if-discovered. Weird political views or ideas of controlling all of society, exterminations, stuff like that. Not always of course and assuming straight edge is similar, much how emo’s similar to emo.
===
Ah, I saw emo + punk as distinct. Emo more clubby / solitary with punk more permanent sharpie tattoos and black leather. Both liked black clothes but different.
But something changed in the 90s that I didn’t follow. I heard there were large movements in Europe and stuff, but I didnt’ follow the politics.
===
Oh, I predate lincoln park. I knew 80s/early 90s emo vs 80s/early 90s punk. Shit happened that I wasn’t paying attention to after that.

He’s only ever really hunted there. It got a nice writeup in Field & Stream a few yrs ago.“It is more difficult to hunt deer in the Big Cypress than on most other public lands in Florida. “Setting up his tree stand in 2 ft of swamp water with water moccasins zooming towards me was NOT fun as the water was going into my snake boots. But it’s my bro, so I did it.

“The secret to your future life is hidden in your daily routine”Proud of myself on that one -and for me, it’s true. A change of routine and the future automatically changes with it. It’s amazing.
