I’m 3 days in here. It’s a shitposting group. “What ridiculous thing can I say that will trigger the most amount of frustrated men to respond angrily or with adolescent glee?” is usually the goal it seems.

Thank you Karl :) Been online since 1989 so I’ve seen a lot. But the ability to say ‘whatever’ without any apparent consequence is pretty standard. Some stay that way, most eventually move on to other hobbies. I’ve been hanging around the uber serious for a few months so it was time to check out some absurd again.

It’s just the group I needed :) I spent 2.5 years deep in the alt right groups (before I knew that was their names) trying to make sense of their subculture. Didn’t expect them to make the news. Eventually got boring, I went Mr. Science again, but then I was nostalgic for the white guys who never tire of saying stupid things about women and non-white people. Their existence embarrasses me so I like to keep tabs.

probably :) Internet anthropologist i guess. I’ve studied the internet philosophers, the new atheists, the furries and the my little pony fandom prior to those… I never get bored.

well they’re not my enemies – i’ve made a lot of friends in these groups — but each group has a ‘different’ way of thinking than me. So, I try to understand.

politically? yeah, same here. I console myself that they wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if they got into power… and looking at the current US administration, it seems i was right. The admin might not be specifically alt right but close and quite clueless.

I think i watched a total of 15 seconds of Alex Jones once. I try to stay away from commentators ’cause they’re too cringey for me. Kudos that you can watch! What I did was more hanging around groups that they hung out in, debating and stuff. Learned a lot.

They’re a lot of fun. I can trigger atheists by saying “I’m agnostic” and with theists, it depends on where they come from. I know plenty about _most_ Christiandom, some about esoteria imports to America and earth religions, a smattering about Islam and bits about Judaism.

If you know a decent atheist/theist group that is more than just Dawkins quotes and/or yay science I’d like to check it out.

My mom was married to an Egyptian Muslim in 1984-86, long before Egypt started getting a little fundy. I was like 11-13 yrs old. Nice guy. I got to eat various new foods, learned to not put my feet up. My mom got to go to Egypt for a month. But his personality was too much like my sister’s, so the clashing ended it. But she still has his last name all these years later. They make her take off her shoes at airports, which she gets a kick out of. [Bekheet]

He prayed 5x a day ’cause he was supposed to. It reminded me of the Catholics in town, who just did their duty but otherwise weren’t any different. [I was raised Methodist but had a lot of ‘religious questing’ through the years].

Well, Taco Bell’s not Mexican. Lots of what ppl think of as Mexican is actually Southwestern USA. Cilantro is in a lot of Mexican dishes. I didn’t experience how good Mexican food was ’til I moved to southwest Florida. In new jersey, mexican = taco bell. But here with lots of mexicans living here? The mexican food is amazing.

It’s worth trying. I mean, you might be disappointed or you might like it. If they serve fresh salsa with homemade tortilla chips before you even order, the food will probably be really good. I mean yeah, it’s lots of beans and cheese and sauces smushed together but it’s how they do it that can be really good when it’s done right. But I’m probably biased about the cilantro because for a cheap herb, it does great things to salads and meats and stuff. It gives a “woah, what’s that?” taste. [but that’s not Mexican cooking but just messing around with food]
