Their world is run by institutions that are more powerful than them. It didn’t matter what it was: school, government, work – everything’s stronger than them. No matter how they wish and hope and try, there’s no getting ahead. Their life course is fixed. This aspect is a commentary on the failure of capitalism’s empty promises.
