I’ll tell you what I know.
Edison ran a few invention/patent factories. I visited one as a child and it was very interesting.
I knew he wasn’t the “Wizard of Menlo Park” by the time I was in middle school but he was a clever businessman and knew some powerful people in entertainment. They worked together frequently and they all got rich together in 19th century America.
He also had a keen eye for novelty and I will give him all the credit for choosing well.
Tesla was not a significant worker for Edison and left early. I don’t remember but I think Tesla tried to steal a couple of other people’s work there and strike out on his own.
Unfortunately, Tesla was not a good businessman. Terrible at it.
Westinghouse though, was a very smart industrialist. He know how to productionize in a way that Edison didn’t, although he was weak in the invention department.
I’m not sure if Westinghouse used Tesla to steal AC patents from Edison or not – it’s been a while but Tesla’s role ultimately was minimal in this.
