If you want to win over Excel users, DON’T try to demonize Excel. It won’t work.

Domo: Add-in for Excel?
or
Domo: Separate software that reads Excel spreadsheets?
or
Domo: Online (“Cloud”/hosted) software that reads Excel spreadsheets?
or
Domo: Database with nice reporting abilities.

I love Excel. I’m all for better looking reporting solutions. But really, you need a little more honesty and a better advertisement.

The reason Excel stands out is because data is often inconsistent and business metrics can change day by day. It’s a swiss-army knife.

Business execs? Maybe. But then the implementation process will be severe and they will likely regret their decision, UNLESS they’re a new company that has the flexibility to try something novel.

I remember when Microstrategy was going the Excel killer.

It didn’t. Company I worked for wasted 2 million trying to replace my weird-but-working Excel report calculating/pushing/graphing thing with them. Sure, after a year they got a prototype. But as we had hundreds of uniquely changing data sources, a database solution just wouldn’t work. Data too raw, too inconsistent, coming from other companies in many different formats.

Sometimes you can’t control the consistency of all of your data sources, ESPECIALLY if you are in the front-line. Companies don’t always own all of their data.
