If you expect full honesty and transparency and consistency without playing politics while doing politics, then, well, you might have to get off the cloud a little.
I’m sure she’s solely and completely and uniquely responsible for all the things that her detractors have attempted to place on her head for 30 years, since Rush Limbaugh started calling her “Shillary” back in 1993. God I remember those awful radio programs. I had an old Italian boss that was democrat and listened to Rush just so he could yell at the radio at what an idiot he was.
When you hear the SAME PEOPLE saying “she’s horrible” for 30 years without a break it’s hard to take them seriously anymore.
[and to me, Alex Jones and Rush Limbaugh are the same, except Alex Jones only laughs insanely when he does]
He livestreamed the event. The man’s not right in the head. I’ve known Catholic priests and they’re just people doing the best they can to help those under their care. But this guy? blech… something wrong with him.
She’s a tough broad. Echos US policy well. Cooperates with military advice, the typical Congressional warhawkish ways, etc. Civil servant. It’d be different if she was somehow different from standard US policy in these matters, but frankly, I don’t see much difference between Hilary, Barack, George, Bill, George or Reagan. A little 4 yr non-politically connected Trump won’t change any of that. The course has been set for a long time in these matters. I don’t like it but I never liked standard US foreign policy anyway.
If I thought someone could CHANGE it for real, instead of blowing impossible dreams our way, I’d have gladly voted that way.
But I can’t see it happening without a complete overturn of Congress. Hence: I voted for Clinton. Sanders’ inserted himself in a position to have influence. This is the best I can hope for as far as asisting US foreign policy. Trump wouldn’t change any of that. He’s just too weak.
Btw – there’s this: another reason I couldn’t do Trump. Brings out the crazies.
America is a war country. I can hardly think of a time that we weren’t. I’m not the least bit proud of it either. Our imperialism annoys me. I also know that no single politician in the USA is going to change that. I have to focus on domestic policy. Our foreign policy sucks and it’s all to protect our OPEC relationship with the Saudi’s in order to keep the PetroDollar (stable Dollar). We lose that, and our economy goes to shit.
No, I don’t like our foreign policy at all. This is why I focus on UN humanitarian efforts to make up for our shit foreign policy.
There’s this, Kosovo, Central America before that, Vietnam before that. Korean war before that, … it stretched back.
Yeah, I know. Most embarrassing fact of my country. I don’t blame other nations if they hate us. They should. We deserve it.
I know. Just look at the Canadian’s treatment of natives with that school system. Atrocious. Criminal. Same stuff we did in the USA. Hate it. Can’t fix it though.
Trump’s not gonna fix it. He’s a slick salesman who walks away once the deal is signed.
I could “not vote”, but that’s just stupid. I happen to like Clinton’s domestic policies and the idea of Sanders’ keeping her honest.
Maybe we can fix it, but not this election. Not with him. No way. He’s not capable, powerful enough, and he’s so wet behind the ears in REAL politics, he’d be played for a sucker by Congress and every foreign nation we come in contact with.
In the USA, we’d have to flip Congress so the votes go towards peace. Towards cooperation with international entities of peace. Any revolution will be slow and long term. How can we overturn 250+ years of “war = power / peace = weakness?” Not overnight.
I’m not hard on Clinton because she’s a cog in the wheel that at LEAST knows what she’s doing. She does more than support war policies, you know. She actually *does* things for women and children, minorities, things for citizens. Perfectly? No. Of course not. But she tries. I have to be satisfied with that. It’s not like I’m gonna move to Norway or something… and that’d just introduce another set of problems – theirs. There’s no angels in politics.
The closest hope we have at present is the flawed UN. I’m not entirely proud of them either. But they’re doing better than most in these ways. My own coutry isn’t going to do it. UN’s efforts are flawed and much of it misguided, but a lot of it is good, and the best we can expect for now. I’m realistic about things. I hate that but I have to be.
No revolution is coming Nick. The british were ‘hands off’. Trusted us. The revolution happened because they didn’t expect it and couldn’t respond properly. Why were we willing? I dont’ know. I learned it in school, but that’s just “yay everything the US does is great!” public relations education. I don’t know why we really did it. We just did, but I suspect it had more to do with saving a few $$$ in the long term (handling money ourselves) rather than anything overly idealistic, although the people who drew up the Constitution were pretty damned smart, learned people who were up to date with the latest in philosophy. So, they drew up a solid document.
Trump’s not Hitler. He’s a guy who sells used cars who just echoes the Hitlerian rhetoric his fanbase wants to hear.
His running mate though, is rather dangerous. He actually knows politics and has dangerous ideas. Trump’s ideas won’t come to fruition.
Revolution *could* happen in the USA, but the shit you hear in the news and with online rhetoric is just posturing.
The worst I’d expect out of the alt right is some Malotov cocktails, a few burned down black churches and the National Guard being called into places where things get annoying for business owners.
I expect some fighting on University campuses too.
But the exaggerations you’re hearing is just that. Blown out of proportion. Our military isn’t inept but we stick our noses where they don’t belong too much.
This election is a classic “city vs country” battle. Yes, there’s Trump supporters in cities, and yes there’s liberals on farms.
What’s different is that hyperbole is at an all time extreme. One ‘shocking thing’ after the next, greatly fueled by people overseas who take advantage of the naivity of the Right by planting fake news articles they they broadcast to conspiracy minded listeners.
9/11 was a good wake-up call to the USA yet even NOW, a lot of people believe it was all a setup by the USA on ourselves. Our powers of delusion are powerful, as you’ve said.
The difference between Hitler + Trump There’s many.
a) The US Constitution does not support a dictatorship.
b) The US Constitution is not about to be rewritten to support a dictatorship.
c) We’ve had idiots in office before whose ideas were curtailed by Congress, the Justice system, by the States, and by the Military. These are HUGE amounts of people in large departments who can RESPOND… SLOWLY.. if they disagree.
Is it possible? Sure it is. Likely? No it’s not. America’s a very diverse country. Just look at how the two parties are almost split evenly, very nearly 50/50 popular. Maybe it’s 55/45. Maybe it’s 65/35. Whatever. It’s not like it’s 95/5 or 90/10.
Too many people compare “today” (whenever today is) to Hiterl’s Germany. They’re convinced that ‘THIS TIME THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT”. They get caught up in the drama and hyperbole, fed by the news and by paranoid people.
But the things don’t come to pass. Why?
There’s too many MORE POWERFUL people invested in making sure that does not happen here. We have safeguards in place. Multiple levels of safeguards.
You’re caught up in a TV / internet drama.
Extreme poverty and totalitarianism don’t exist in the same conditions as WW1. There’s not mass starvations and massive poverty. Did you know that extreme poverty is on the road to being eliminated from the planet? We’re close. Very close. There’s 7 billion ppl here because people are living longer and healthier, having fewer children per family.
Most of the world is *not* in a state of war on their soil at this moment.
The internet is available in more places every day, and the infrastructures keep being extended and strengthened. We’re becoming connected as a planet.
Look at those fake news stories coming from Macedonia on the right. Would that be possible in WW1? Ww2? Teenage kids trying to make a few $$$ from Google are able to do so by feeding into the mindset of the American alt right and they know JUST what they want to hear.
That’d be impossible 100 years ago. 50 years ago. 30 years ago. Now it’s happening.
