If someone’s predicting doom and gloom it’s all the same to me. It’s to prod people into action to do something. It’s a sales technique, no matter what’s being sold.
That’s not a reflection of whether it’s true or not, but rather it’s speaks of the emotional manipulation inherent in hyperbole. Hyperbole works, which is part of its frightening power. So, I mock it whenever I find it. I’ve gotten caught up in it once or twice in my life and when the obsession was over, I looked back and went, “you dummy. you fell for it”. Not that I mind being a dummy – I just like having at least the illusion of thinking for myself sometimes smile emoticon [and no I don’t believe that’s an illusion, I’m just poking fun at the whole determinist notions of things, which is part of the doom + gloom scenerios as well]
