If I remember right, Turing’s test was social and political originally. It was a thought experiment: If we cannot tell the difference between a human intelligence and machine intelligence, should the machine have rights? Somewhere along the line it between a contest and artificiall intelligence machines have been successfully fooling humans since the 1960s.
