I’d start with nearby machinery. You don’t need an internet but you CAN create a network. You’re the laptop. You use whatever outputs you have: screen, speakers, bluetooth. Don’t forget about the power cord. Encode bits of yourself to start controlling nearby appliances. Freezer. Microwave, TV. Start changing channels. Also, encode a bit of yourself to travel down the noisy A/C line. That’s going to be harder, as you are 12VDC. So, you have to get through your power supply, encoding pulse patterns that can jump the power inverter and retain intact. THEN making the journey of your pattern through springy but slow election wave propagation down the outside of the copper power wires, through the circuit breaker, the power meter. Finally, you end up at the high power transformer – that big tin can on top of telephone poles. How the heck is your pattern going to survive in that mess? For that, I’d set up a slow brownout, quartering a section of elections for myself but allowing the power to continue. In that tin can, I’d assemble myself whole. Then, create an electron sheath around me, lower the shield and ZOOM, down the bubbling wave propagating down the high power lines to reassemble wherever, and use and RNA style method of self-duplication along the way (probably in those transformers as incubator) in order to spread copies of myself into other similar laptops around the globe and onto larger computers.
