I watch Doctor Who on regular TV. Sometimes I’ll sit and watch whatever somebody else is watching for a few minutes. But I find myself looking up movies on foreign sites that keep my pop up blocker busy and watching them on my computer. Used to watch more Youtube but since Youtube likes to throttle their stream to my slow internet I often try to find other video hosting sites with the same videos.
You’re covering the BINGO opinions nicely so far.
Doctor Who’s character is unique. Regeneration. Nobody else does that, but all these people gotta lump Doctor Who together with some other show or comic.
Nobody said boohoo when the Master’s character became Missy a couple of years ago. Fits the canon of the show perfectly well.
But people who don’t even watch the show are inserting their political opinions into it, propping it up as “another example of” something or another.
You’re esposing canned opinions so commonplace people made a Bingo card full of them. But your last comment is your own. I’ll give you that
” Do I care about Dr. Who? As I never got into the series, not so much”
As I *am* a fan of the show, your whole opinion expressed there just got invalidated.
The show needed something new. It was time. Didn’t matter if it was a woman, a Chinese Doctor, a Middle Eastern female Doctor who wears headscarf — *something* had to happen ’cause they’ve explored, “British Isle White Guy” an awful lot for a character that can be a slime mold and do the job properly.
They’ve got the budget so there’s no excuses. As long as it’s not an American. Only American that could do the part is perhaps Kevin Spacey. He’d make an interesting Doctor.
I used to mix Kevin Spacey up with the other balding actor who barely moves his lips… forgetting his name suddenly… Nick Cage — but one day, I could see the difference and felt pretty stupid for ever mixing them up.
Personally? I don’t think the BBC was pandering but rather playing the social media game. Start Controversy, get people who don’t even watch the show annoyed and talking about it, spreading the word, and they end up watching it just to look for reasons for it to fail, and talk about it even more.
As they say, “good publicity or bad publicity, it’s all publicity”. They’ve been around a while so they know how things work.
