I understand. Thing is, I don’t want these secret societies — even if they included me as a member. It’s not what American justice is supposed to be. It may be what it is, but that should change so that all Americans get equal protections under the law.
It’s not the money though. It’s frat-boy thinking. Loyalty. Nothing leaves the group. Swear a pact. There’s groups like that in all levels of society but in the level of the powerful and influential, it can get scary.
Secrecy I think.
I’ve nearly gotten pulled into this kind of group more than a few times in my life, but I have a “law enforcement” way of thinking:
“Don’t say anything more, I don’t wanna know because if I know, then I’m responsible.”
I’ve had to say that and walk out of things, even though my gossipy side really wanted to know.
It’s probably because I was raised with movies that always show secret pacts ending in disaster.
