One can analyze things from multiple perspective for different purposes.
I *typically* analyze things from a historical context perspective. “How was [x] for time [y]?”
But it’s also valuable to study things from a “now only” perspective and treat things as if they fell from the sky into your lap and you have to give your opinions.
[because you *are* here today, and _not_ back then, so there may be some level of dishonesty in attempting to imagine “what it must’ve been like” when one wasn’t there]
Still, I enjoy that exercise. I also like projecting into the future a lot

I’ve been entertained by the snark on this post 🙂 A little chaos can be fun, especially when it’s pedantic. I always learn something from people who know a lot of stuff about a subject I don’t and they pedantically argue about it, heatedly.
[I’m pedantic so ‘birds of a feather flock together’ or whatever 🙂 ]
This very discussion I believe, helped each of the participants discover the nuances of their own opinions, not only on FF, but more importantly on their own deeper perspectives about what’s right and proper communication.

I’m just glad retrogaming is a thing, otherwise much wasted talent. Lots of crap was made back then, even if it was popular at the time, just like today.

The politics of gaming is a beautiful sight. [google picked that page for me and I took it as I wanted to see an example of Vic’s claim vs Jason’s claim wrt FF VI, a subject I am entirely ignorant about.
Best way to learn is finding experts who argue with each other.
