I think “Like” is perceived as a generic, “I see and acknowledge” most often.

I don’t know the rules for facebook liking really. I used to like what I agreed with or I’d like to be kind. But then when FB started counting likes and using it to build a profile of ‘me’, I found I had to stick to subjects I wanted to see more of. But even with that, I still tend to use “Like” as “Noted” – and hope someone doesn’t get offended… and really, nobody does.

Exceptions where I’m careful : someone dies, their kid is sick, etc but even then, I think “Like” is perceived as a generic, “I see and acknowledge” most often.
