I spent 15 months studying what I call the “internet philosopher”. Joined a bunch of groups. Learned a lot of stuff.
I got inside their brains as far as mine could go and know their ways well. But I feel a bit of pity for them. Few can get out of their boxes.
They’re like “that one kid” who at every game says, “THAT’S NOT HOW THE RULES GO!”, and topples over the table, or throws down the controller.
But they get good at their rules and use a lot of logic traps. Everything binary – even the advanced multi-modal logic folks are ultimately binary. They’ll never see that line in the middle and how much is really there.
It is. It’s either glee of having you in their trap or anger when you escape. Rarely is there any other emotion present.
I liked predicting their patterns. Oh, they hated that. Be three or four moves ahead. Short circuit their roadmap. Or I’ll attack the very nature of “thought experiment”. They base everything on what’s ultimately a complete fiction. How can you base real world decisions on a completely fictional thing created in a void universe that does not exist?
ooh, that gets anger.
I go the route of being Mr. Rogers ultimately – but a passive aggressive Mr. Rogers with a little bit of bite.
I don’t think I could have done this if I was a woman or rather, if I had a woman’s profile because they are REALLY NASTY to women. Unbelievably so.
I’d probably block too in that case.
It especially saddens me to even say that because I grew up on an internet of equality. You knew that whoever you talked to could be anybody, man, woman, child and I didn’t see current levels of hostility towards women by men online until maybe 6-7 yrs ago.
I’m really glad you found a good solution. You found a way to get rid of the noise to find the signal.
My mom was married to a Egyptian for a few years way back. Egyptians (at the time anyway), start from pre-puberty onwards at removing all body hair with a sugar solution.
Sand. Sand gets in everything.
Maybe they use Epilady’s now, I dunno.
I got on in 1989, fell in love with online and I’ve been participating in stuff all throughout. Even with flaws it’s still awesome to me and I’m glad a lot of the planet is hooked together online.
And whatever issues exist, they’ll work out ultimately I believe.
