I sat down in the library stacks after school one day, 7th grade. Straight to the library (no internet for citizens yet). Looked in the “New Books” section. Liked the cover. Started reading. Stayed until closing, around 8pm. Read the whole thing, sitting in the aisle. I got in trouble when I got home but it was worth it.

What struck me in the book is how *little* the kids were. In the movie the ages were reasonable but in the book, these were 5/6/7 yr olds going through some unbelievable horrible stuff.

Same. I remember when I first read Shannon. Don’t remember when or how I came across Shannon but the section on redundancy in the English language was mindblowing to me.
