i never pieced it together but there was a TV movie right at the tail end of the Cold War (but we didn’t know it was the tail end yet) called “The Day After” on ABC. I was a kid.
In the movie, “The Bomb” struck BEFORE THE CREDITS IN THE BEGINNING.
Whoosh goes the people we were introduced to a minute earlier. Fireball goes the houses and towns and then the rest of the miniseries was, as the title says “The day after”.
The radiation poisoning, the struggling for food, the people fighting against people, families tearing apart.
and to any kid in that era it scared the hell out of them including me because it was “too real”. Definitely ptsd.
So what will you do in 5 years ? I dunno. Get turned into vapor I guess and blow away.
