I mean it’s not that I don’t like other people’s music. But I’m more likely to ANALYZE the music than to sit back and allow it to “take me away” to another place. For a year, around the time “What does the Fox say” came out, I analyzed EVERY new song that came out, finding the patterns, getting a sense for the mechanics of it. So I could “listen” to a pop song in about 10 seconds, scrolling through quickly to find the bass drop, the musical idea it was presenting, enough to see whether I think it’s a good song or not – without actually listening to the whole thing.
