I may be a hard physicalist and while it may be all physics ultimately, physics is far too simple of a language to explain everything. You can get further with biology and physics together. For example, human acuity is limited. We can distinguish perhaps 1ms of time ourselves and only under a particular condition – 5ms is more reasonable to discriminate, 50ms starts getting easy, etc and all the way up at 400ms we’re having opinions about whether we like something or not as all the grammatical systems kick in finally. But we’re aware prior to that. So, we can make instruments that bring other parts of reality INTO our range but it’s not the same as “seeing the small” or “seeing the big”. What we are seeing is still perfectly within our range but we are HANDICAPPED as human beings and CANNOT see things that are really small or really large. We use creative tools that work with our cognitive systems. Mathematics works nicely. Languages do too. Art also can explain in other ways. But they’re all concessions to our limitations, translations into various ways we can attempt to understand complicated things.
