I made Excel and VBA do “Big data” with millions of lines of data processing through it while Google was still in diapers

Yes, I know. I’m talking about the difficulty of holding a position of absolute DETERMINISM for the Universe.

The logic mistake you’re making is this:
There’s basically three computers:
a) The engineered computer. Perfection. On paper.
b) The manufactured computer. Potential for defect.
c) The computer after being used over time. Definite uniqueness.

I’m speaking about #3.

I’ve done work in IT as well. Computer repair in the 90s. Systems analyst for a big pharma a few years after that for a while – originally a business position but promoted to the IT depart.

I worked in Excel. Too smart for business analyst, too “messy” for the IT department.

They kept wanting to “database” my work. Make everything perfect. But programming is slow, and all the business dept needed was quick business metrics to answer questions based on WHATEVER data they threw at me.

Lots and lots of fun. I loved it. I made Excel and VBA do “Big data” with millions of lines of data processing through it while Google was still in diapers smile emoticon
