I just poke fun at my heroes – and he’s one of them. I try to avoid adoration ’cause sometimes it keeps me from thinking clearly. I can’t say it’s for everyone – just a coping mechanism I’ve developed for myself, as I find I’m easily drawn into admiring certain people for one reason and letting my clear thinking become moved by other things instead.
Hardest person I hit with my test was Carl Sagan. Real hard. He could do no wrong by me. But… I figured if I was being critical of the people I didn’t like, I should give my heroes the same treatment. Didn’t find much with him, but I found a few things. Knowing what seemed not-quite-right, to me, makes what they DO get right even stronger and being “more human” to me, I feel the foundation being firmer. Just one of my quirks.
