I have no idea. Whatever patterns I participate in and customize and share i hope continues in some form.
Facebook doesn’t want to be seen as a media company. Media companies are a regulated industry. But they are a media company. It’s far far too influential and broad to not be.
I suppose what I see is a missed opportunity, a continuation of old ways in new media, perpetuating problems that are already worse due to volume and scope (worldwide efforts can easily sway local public opinion).
So, I understand his “I dunno nothin'” way: I might do the same. But it’s a severely missed opportunity that amplifies problems.
I wouldn’t mind capitalism if it wasn’t for the desperate scrambling of the powerful.
You got billions of dollars, influence of billions of people and throw up your hands and say “Nothing I can do”. Mark Z’s talking from a level of privilege we can’t fathom. It’s an ivory tower response through crystal windows at a world he does not inhabit.
I’ve watched Facebook drop the ball so many times. Promise to fix things and then continue in the same fashion. Maybe it’s how I’d do things too. Be a dragon protecting his cave of loot against knights. So I don’t know.
So many narratives . Q Anon is the most thorough, right down to the ancient aliens. They cobbled together all of ‘em, right down to the crap my nutty neighbor blabbed about in the 1980s about the Catholic church. it’s all in there.
But my opinion remains. The powerful scramble for relevance and upping their status. Cooperation is transient and backstabbing the norm. That’s why conspiracy, while it does happen, is to me unlikely to be organized in such grand scales as such narratives proclaim.
Well, I pick my battles. There’s a lot of stuff I just let go by and not sweat. Most things really. But there’s a few I’m a stickler for.
Fighting apathy is one of my battles. I know when I’m apathetic about something ,that’s it. It’s over. I genuinely don’t care. it’s a deep and complete uncaring. So, I fight it. it’s a fight with self.
