I have hope for Gen Z. The edgiteen Gen Z to me are MOSTLY a holdover from late Millennial Hitler fetishizing as late millennials make up a large amount of Youtubers that are popular with kids.
What I’ve seen of Z is a very diverse generation. Those that got sucked into 4chan at 10-12 yrs old _usually_ leave it eventually and move on and those that stay behind even then are mostly in it for the memes.
contrast that with late Millennial edgy and you’ll see a difference. I don’t think Z’s take politics as life or death as the 20-something late Mills did – just as a fun aside for jokes.
nep he w’s 12 + 2 of his friends were 4chan users and xbox gamers since 4th grade. True believers and I try to keep my nephew out of the worst of it. So it’s definitely a thing. But this area has been white power friendly for a long time anyway. Still, I think he’ll be fine as he’s just ironic about it himself.
YES, same observation. Z is making *fun* of late Mill edginess for the most part, like laughing at older brothers ironically.
‘m 45, 2nd wave GenX. [everybody forgets about x which is good]. 8-bit, early internet etc.
No expert, just around a while. I like observing people trends online and how online culture continually changes.
In 2011, I saw the first gen z pop online in the then new Google Hangouts. They got harrassed by millennials who were toxic and I put a Mr Rogers hat on, friended these stragglers, liked their posts and an occasional friendly word.
Minecraft explosion + Roblox explosion really threw a lot of Z onto the online scene, taking over a lot of Youtube.
Those that got lost in the Millennial gamers hazing them would sometimes come out toxic themselves. But Z seems to have a fortitude the late Millennial’s didn’t have as much of: Everything’s ironic. My Gen was a lot like that, so it all looked familiar with Z came on.
I think Millennials were kinda screwed for 1000 diff reasons but Z will be fine.
Oh I wouldn’t say “nothing sacred”. Just not as culty as boomers and millenlials.
I never related to my Gen (X) but I find a few that were like me sometimes. I find more in common with Z than X and I can’t relate to Boomers or Millennials at all. I keep TRYING to understand their idealisms but I still can’t wrap my head around how they think.
They create and destroy their own gods regularly. I approve.
Maybe. I can’t say I _completely buy into gen theory Labial. It’s just a handy stereotype that gladly abandon when I can.
Oh THAT’S Alpha. I can’t wait to see what they’ll do. The musically generation.
Agreed. I’m the same with MBTI stuff (INFP here). It’s a mostly harmless relatability metric but when taken too far it should be dropped.
I see only good things for the future gens. Niece + neph 6+4 at the house, and I love the fact that the have _control_ of their entertainment at toddler + up ages. Gives them independence.
If I did that, I apologize. I put a lot of my heart and hope for the future into Gen Z and I’ve been doing my best to understand as Since then I’ve been trying to stay a couple steps ahead of him in internet culture so I knew what was waiting for .
I ran a Minecraft server from 2012-2014 for and ended up sorta getting to know a lot of Gen Z Minecrafters in the process – and I guess I really am counting on Z to fix things that are being broken now.
