I first got on in 1989; and one of the things about the earlier internet is that everything was very public. Nothing was private really. Its origins as a military + university partnership shows everywhere because both are walled organizations within which there wasn’t much need for privacy and protections from outside threats. In late 1993, things started shifting as it went commercial. The era from around 1995-2003 was a strange era I think; a bit chaotic I think in places.
