I dunno. It’s a toy but it’s a toy that I find fascinating.
Finite element analysis usually takes HUGE computations, LOTS of difficult setup and a lot of precision. I tried doing it dozens of times using free software and got absolutely nowhere CLOSE to this.
But this thing is amazing. A quick 2m sketch and I can find fracture points in materials without knowing anything about the materials. It’s fun.
this kind of stuff is what I’d LOVE to do, but I just don’t have the patience to learn. But this 2D toy is perfect for me.
It’s how I think when I look at objects. When I put my arms on the table to type right now, I’m aware how much pressure my left wrist is putting on the table, the deformations of the plastic and how it’s affecting my skin and nerves as well.
I can’t do much with that 2D toy but I could replicate something in 2D, put pressure points and anchors on it and see what the inside looks like from a tension and compression POV. So, it’s cool.
