I don’t think most of it was coming from the USA though. It was very international in scope.
The USA was an international joke for four years straight and people from other countries would take it upon themselves to toy around, pretend to be Americans, join groups, start chaos.
I don’t think there THAT much of an organized concerted effort with a few exceptions.
But I know in my dealings with people I’d be debating with someone and over time find out they’re from Estonia or Belarus, or other Eastern European countries – where they have killer good internet fiber service – and enjoyed roleplaying as right wing Americans.
I don’t blame them – it’s fun and no consequences for them.
But I learned to keep half an eye out and try to figure out when someone was really from the USA or non-US troll having fun.
