I don’t know the medical specifics of the baby Charlie Gard enough to agree or disagree with the UK Medical boards, the Pope or Trump. But I do know a distraction when I see one.
From this story, a failing politician will gain support by creating enemies and you will hear many being compared to [the evil he names who wanted to deny etc etc]
What you will not hear is about other Charlie Gards and you will not hear about non-Charlie Gards who will not get any treatments of any kind thanks to what we’re being distracted from looking at.
“Here! Look at this single, heart-breakng story!”
Yes, but what about…
“no no, you evil who is just like [named enemy]! Have you no heart!”
Yes but the millions of other…
“No no! Look at Charlie and more importantly: ME!”
I hope Charlie Gard gets the care he needs and such of course: I can’t say anything either way about his medical case because I don’t know.
But I know a political ploy when I see one and to use a real case of a real situation to prop up your sagging political career is a classic politician move.
